Serve

antioch_july15_2015_web-16“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (I Peter 4:10).

Here at Antioch Community Church, we take this verse to heart and encourage every member to discover his or her spiritual gift, employ it in service to the body, and see God’s grace magnified as a result.

Opportunities to Serve within the Body of Believers:

Church Mice: Do you have 15 minutes after the service to help go through the pews and make sure trash is picked up, pencils are in their place, and Visitor cards are re-stocked? Then we would love to have you sign up to be on the “Church Mice” rotation.

Food Ministry: There are many opportunities to serve through preparing food.

  • Prepare a meal for a family who has a new baby, who has gone through surgery, or who has had a death in the family.
  • Prepare food for (or even host) a fellowship meal.
  • Prepare food for the monthly women’s or men’s breakfasts, or a meal at the women’s or men’s retreats.
  • Prepare the coffee on Sunday mornings or at any gathering.

Minister to our elderly: We have older men and women who would enjoy help with everything from housework or yard work to errands to simply visiting and spending time getting to know them better.

Moving Ministry: We have become quite good at helping our members move from one house to another. Come and help with the next one!

Nursery: A nursery is provided for children ages 3 and under during the sermon. Offer to help minister to our moms by helping take care of our little ones!

Packathon: Once a year we pack food with Feed the Hunger to send to those in need around the world. Please join us!

Prayer: “Praying at all times in the spirit, with all prayer and supplication…” (Ephesians 6:18). We are committed to corporate prayer on Sunday mornings and at weekly home groups. There are also other times during the week when different groups meet for Bible Study and/or prayer.

Special Events: We have several larger events throughout the year where “many hands make light work.” Some of these include:

  • Women’s Christmas Dinner
  • Daddy-Daughter Dance
  • Church-wide Wednesday evening meals
  • Fall Festival (on or around October 31st)
  • Men’s Beach Retreat
  • Women’s Beach Retreat

Transportation: Do you know someone whose car is in the shop, or doesn’t have a way of getting to church, appointments, or the grocery store? Volunteer to drive them where they need to go.

Wedding/Baby Showers: Know of a couple getting married or having a baby?  Help plan a shower of love to bless the happy couple! Our home groups normally organize these.

Work days: Once in the Spring and once in the Fall, we have a church work day where we do landscaping, minor repairs, and deep cleaning. Come and help!

Worship Team: Has God gifted you musically through singing or playing an instrument? If so, speak to our worship leader about joining the Worship Team. Or perhaps prepare a special song for a holiday or a Wednesday night gathering.

Writing: Do you enjoy writing letters? We have several members who are serving on the Mission field or the Military Field (which is also a Mission Field). What an encouragement it is to them to receive mail from home. Please see the church directory or our tables and World Map in the foyer for addresses.

Young families: Are your babies grown, and you would love to spend time with some little children again? There are plenty of moms who would appreciate you spending time with their little ones while they run errands, do school with the older ones (for those who homeschool), or maybe just take a nap!
